Exploring Northumberland

Northumberland’s dramatic hills and sheltered valleys stretch from Hadrian’s Wall to the Scottish Border. Thriving market towns of Hexham and Corbridge offer every amenity and the backdrop of Newcastle is less than one hour’s drive from the Cottages.

Golf:Slaley Hall Golf Club, located 20 miles from Tarset Holiday Cottages has two championship standard golf courses guaranteed to test the best golfer. Closer to home (4 miles from the Cottages), is the highly regarded 18 hole, par 70 Bellingham Golf Course.

Alnwick Castle & Gardens – This glorious medieval castle is steeped in history and is famously the film location for Harry Potter and Blackadder.

Hadrians Wall – Britain’s greatest Roman Monument, Hadrian’s Wall World Heritage Site runs for 150 miles from Arbeia at South Shields to Ravenglass on the Cumbrian Coast. There was once over 30 forts on the Roman frontier, including the original 16 on the line of the Wall. Today you can visit a string of amazing forts and museums that stretch across the north of England as well as enjoying the spectacular walk along its path.

Scottish Borders – Covering about eighteen hundred square miles, the Scottish Borders stretches from the rolling hills and moorland in the west, through gentler valleys to the high agricultural plains of the east, and on to the rocky Berwickshire coastline with its secluded coves and picturesque fishing villages. Market villages of Jedburgh and Melrose at 30 minutes drive from the Cottage.
